31-Jul-2008 - An obsession with the Male form
Well, where did it all begin? I guess ever since I was a boy and was aware of my own sex, I wanted to know how other boys 'fitted in'. I made it my goal to view their actions be it at work or play, in a team or on their own. I would quietly observe, from a safe distance; always with the hope I would be picked to be on their side as I sat on the sideline at a sports meet. Admittedly I was accepted and in many cases through schooling and college to when I worked sucessfully in Londons Art world; I made many friends. The observations of men never left me. Like so many things, phases one often grows out of, like a childs toys or security blanket from their cot...I guess this is one I never did. However instead of looking at guys to see 'how they do it'. I look and observe to try to get deeper into the essense of what it is to be male. Starting with the form and physique in its most subtle and vulnerable; ie the nude; has allowed me into a world that I find exciting and intriguing.
I hope many of you, will understand this and my way of thinking, if not, well thats ok. You I hope will enjoy my work in your own way. Art by its very nature is ambiguous. Lets not fight it to find a 'true meaning'. All we can do as artists is to go with how we feel and do the best we can...
Leave a comment if you wish, or let what I've stated into your own work. I do however enjoy hearing from others, all criticism is good if we have the courage to pursivere...(not sure if thats how you spell that)
