Mounted in a very heavy wooden frame with gilt detailing on its inner section. This astonishing piece was part of a small collection that re-surfaced during the making of a Danish TV series. The series encouraged the general public to have their art valued by professional art experts, and a family from Jydekobing brought in some early 17th. Century paintings. Amongst the collection was this wonderful piece by Fiigenschou. Although the canvas is suffering from some minor scuffs, its state of repair is surprisingly good considering the age and provenance. The frame however is now undergoing a thorough program of restoration by conservators at The Norwegian State Gallery (HYPERLINK "http://www.statsgalleriet.no/"www.statsgalleriet.no). Scholars are currently in disagreement as to how many layers of paint should be removed from this large frame. The frame is probably a later addition to the painting itself, and arguably dates back to the late 18th. or early 19th. Century. It is quite possibly a copy of the original frame, and amidst the younger paint layers there is a thick coating of light pink, recently found to date back to the teenage years of the family‘s daughter. Sanne Martensen has since explained how she was inspired by her classmates to repaint the frame to match the interior of her bedroom back in the 1980's. The artwork was a gift from her grandfather, the former director of "De Jydske Frilandsamlinger", a local museum. Experts are now removing these later layers to reveal the old colors and restore the frame to its original beauty.
