Description - Reichadvocat Pelzenswanz is a rather fascinating character from the cat era. His special interest into art, made him a patron for the art schools in the district of Amsterdam around the 1620´s and 1630´s.
He loved to pose as a model for life drawing and several portraits of him has been uncovered over the years of investigation into cat history. Besides being an art lover, Berthold Peltzenswanz is known for the legal action against illegal immigrants and stray cats as he conducted the proposal for the new law "Raus mit die bastarden". Several stray cats were captured and in most cases they got castrated and thrown out of the city. This humanitarian disaster was met with harsh criticism from the people.
This painting was probably completed in 1631, during Felix Fiigenschou´s time at the Hartzfleichische Kunstmmlengeshaft.
