Critiques Jan 25-29 A Girl Like Me By Kiri Davis The shot that was used was mostly a LS shot with a wide angle. This movies was made to put promote the stereotypes that black women face within the African American community. It also shows that African American Children as a young age 6 are shown figures in the media and by people around them that the darker you skin is the uglier you are. Also the film wend into hair textures the thicker the hair the uglier the person is, this is taught to young girls in the African American Community making them feel inadequate like their not beautiful. I feel like this is mostly true, but it also depends on you and if you know your self. Also if you are taught to love your self one matter what the media says, you should look like you should be happy with your looks dark skin nappy hair and all. But as he looks more into the disappearance of this woman he begins to loss his own sanity or so he thinks, he begins to became paranoid of everyone one on the island everyone is to get him and poisoning his mind and make him a permanent patent at the asylum. Teddy Daniels Leonardo, and his partner Chuck have come to find this women and work together, As they get more into the story he end s up finding the women their looking for and she tell him what his been think all along their drug him with everything from his food to his cigarettes to make him insane. He believes her and be comes paranoid of everyone on the island. He also think his partner is missing and be killed in the island lighthouse were they take troubled patents. But once he is forced to come to terms with the horrible truth by the head doctor on the island, that fact that he is truly insane and he has made up this made believe world for him self. He didn’t want to believe his wife killed his three kids, and in turn he shot her. He also had a fear of water because his wife murdered their kids in a lake behind their lake house. So to deal with the pain of loss of his family, he made up this story that he is still a US Marshall, Looking for an escape patent, So his doctors make him realize the truth by playing alone with his fantasy trying to help him get well. But it doesn’t help in fact he keeps replaying the story over and over again reliving the US Marshall story. He never comes to terms with what happened over the tremendous guilt he felt, and that’s because he feel like the death of his children is his fault because, his wife told him that she was having mental issues, and he didn’t get her help. An overweight teen girl is suffering, in many ways, her father is addicted to drugs, and sexually abuses her repeatedly. Her mother beats and verbal abuses her daily. While her world is so hard and devastating she creates a fantasy to escape from her daily hard ships. In her fantasy she is famous people love her she walking the red carpet, and she has a light skinned boyfriend with good hair. Precious is 16 in the 9th grade illiterate and pregnant with her second child, by her father. After a meeting with her school principle, Precious decides to go to an alternate school to try to get her GED. While in this school her classmates and her became close friends. Also her teacher takes her under her wing and really wants to help her in every way she can because she feel bad for her situation. During the finding of her self Precious is dealing with sexually, physical verbal abuse from her mother, her mother treats her more like her lover then her daughter. After running away from home she give birth to her second child and even starts to do well in school, so when it seem like everything is going while for her Precious is hit with horrific new. She finds out that she is HIV positive from the sexual abuse by her father heart broken and hurt, Precious almost gives up on life but by the constant, support of her teacher she pulls thought. She also finds out from her mother that her father has died, wanting Precious to come home to get more child support from the government Mary Precious mother ask her to come home, Precious tell her no, and continues to do well in her life. By Precious being underage she had a caseworker to help her, become able to support her self. But to get support she had to go thought counseling sessions with her mother. Wanting government support her mother goes to the session, during the counseling her mother tell her case worker at the young age of three her father started to sexually abuse her. And to keep her man around Mary let him abuse her instead of being a mother a protecting her child. In the end Precious found her self raised her two children and concluding her relationship with her mother. She overcame many obstacles in her life and become better then she ever thought she could be. She never was truly happy with her looks but she did become happy with the person she was. They have live music wine, also every=one who is being severed at the party seating and dinning look as though there are rich the looks like it takes place in the early 1930’s. During the party these people are eat, and eat. And eventually the fall thought the floor the are so heavy. This doesn’t stop the guest from eating more and the more they eat they are served. And they are eating everything from brain to; it looked like a heart to everything. And they fall though the floor again. But there is one woman who doesn’t eat, she just looks at every one else shocked and applaud she just looks around at everyone else eating. They fall though the floor again so the women have one single tear has she gives into the gluttony. These people are eating so much they are taking food off each other’s plates. Preparing for the dinner party to go though another floor the staff and headwaiter want and watch as the floor crack again. Covered in dusk and debris the dinner party guest keep eating, and eating until final they fall and keep falling tough all the floors. They close the film out by again with an ECU of the head butler, with a look of despair on his face as they fall down, and keep falling. They use the dinner party to show a society has a whole, she showed that society is very greedy. By showing these people eat everything they really want to give a felling of disgust. These people were eating all kinds of meats sausages, chickens, liver hearts, brains thing they could stuff in they mouths. Even after they fall though the floor and they were covered in dust they still kept on eating they were brushed off by the staff. But still ate. The staff gave them more food, and just as a society they keep taking more. They even took from each other; this is true in a way that if people want it they will take it. But I really found that the women who was holding out, who know what they were doing was wrong tried not to eat with them. But she almost immediately gives in, she want to be just as greedy as everyone else. And in this case it shows sometimes everyone gives in at least once. As they fall deep into the ground and the butler and staff want for them though stop and sever thing again. The look on his face showed that it would never end. Marcella Thompson 2092567 2-3-10 Art 360 Digital Cinematography Art Event 5 The Hurt Locker By Kathryn Bigelow In this movie is no stop action form the beginning to the end. This movie shows the daily lives of a bomb Tech squad in Baghdad. The story starts out with the fist team member disarming a bomb on a roadside. But unfortunately one of the team’s members didn’t make it out alive. He is quickly replaced by a new member who is much more reckless, and really does go by the book when it come to disarming bombs. He more so by instinct and he well a he does. Fearful of his action his team members think of ways to take him out, but quick change their minds after another near death experience. Learning to work together they all quick become friends, and put each other lives in each other’s hand on a daily basis. Trying to make Iraqi a safer place these military, bomb squad members, deal with death destruction pains turmoil almost everyday. This film also goes deep into the frame of mind of many US Soldiers, how they’re dealing with people dying around them daily. How they are functioning with the death of friend they worked with. How see people blown apart have tormented their minds, there are so many visual aspects in this movie that showed these man are indeed traumatized. The mage of the one solider holding his gun talking to the doctor after is friend and squad member had just been blown up in front of him was very moving because I felt his pain. The actors in this movie were all newcomers but very well thought out. The camera movement was steady, and this give the appearance of a documentary. But while the squad was having dialog like in their room you can tell a tripod was used. This movie is great everyone should see it, I really don’t think people know how everyday live is for soldiers

Marcella Thompson 2092567 3-18-10 Art 360 Digital Cinematography Art Event 3 Brooklyn’s Finest: Antoine Fuqua Brooklyn’s finest takes place in Brooklyn modern day; this is a story of murder, rape, drugs, prostitution, and burglary and just about everything else rotten in Brooklyn. The story follows three policemen in the span of a week, and talks about their daily lives. Richard Gere Charter is the older policeman who is one week from retiring 22 years as a policeman. So to kind of annoy him before his golden years his boss makes him train rookies, for his last week. Uninspired and pissed, he reluctantly takes the job. After his first rookie see’s how worn out he is, the rookie asked to be transferred. And with a hot temper and quick to react to anything the rookie gets him self killed. Later Richard Gere is put with a new rookie, someone who has the same views about the job as him. After carelessly training him, the rookie goes off at a miner store robbery and hurts a young boy. Fed up with the corruption of the department he finally retires, and try’s to runaway with his prostitute that he is in love with, she tells him no. Heart broken and now again inspired to do good into the world. Richard Gere saves three kidnapped women from two pimps that are trying to turn them out. Don Cheadle was a great choice for the undercover cop, who is conflicted between his job and his friendship and loyalty to Wesley Snipes. After being told by his boss that he had to put his friend away for life, and he would have a promotion that he needs. Don Cheadle is torn between doing the right thing ,his job or doing the right thing, staying loyal to his friend. And on top of that his going though a divorce. So Don agrees to the job, he sets his friend up tells him that they can make a lot of money from one job. Wanting a piece of the action the guys Wesley Snipes works with kill him in front of Don trying to, take the money from the deal, Don set him up with. Don gets the promotion, felling like a sellout and being filled with rage, he go’s on a murderous rampage on men who killed Wesley. Killing Red in the street the man who killed Wesley and so worked up over his revenge, he doesn’t see the cop standing behind him and as he shoots Red like five or six times, the cop behind him shoots him about 4 and kills him. See his badge the cop runs into a drug bust looking for his friend Ethan Hawke. Ethan is by this time died, from trying to take money from a drug bust. The movies starts with a you black man shot and killed, by a police officer that was trying to rob him. So Ethaan has like 4 or 5 kids and twins on the way, and his wife and kid all stay in a small house so to made more money the provide for his growing family Ethan steals drug money from drug raids. The story ended by and Ethan and Don losing their lives because they let their greed and emotions get the best of them.

A TOWN HOUSE IN NORTH WEST WASHINGTON DC SHOT: LS, WIDE ANNGLE Michael yawned looks at his alarm clock hits the snooze button, and pulls his dinosaur comforter over his head MRS.THOMAS (SCREAMING UP THE STEPS) Michael is up? Michael? MICHAEL Yes OK mommy I’m up. The bedroom door creeps open, and in runs Ben & Jerry the family dog, he leaps on top of Michael and licks his face MICHAEL YUCK! BJ don’t lick my face. MRS.THOMAS Michael last warnings get up now! Lazily Michael pulls his 4foot 2inch, 78-pound frame out of bed. He walks to the Bathroom with BJ following close behind; his mom quickly cuts him off on the way MRS.THOMAS Why did it take you so long to get up? MICHAEL I don’t know. MRS.THOMAS Now your going to be late, unless I take you to school. Then I’ll be late for work. Hmmmm (MRS. It wasn’t the work or the teacher, nope that stuff was actually ok, it was his schoolmates, he hated the way they tormented him. Every day they mocked his voice, when he answered a question in class, he also hated the way they stepped on the back of his shoes to make him trip, it just seemed like they did anything to make him miserable. He wished for anything, anything to keep him from going to school that day or if he had to go maybe something could happen. Something that would make things goes his way for a change. INT. THE SIDEWALK IN NW WASHINGTON.DC The bells of the ice cream truck, ring over and over again ring,ring,ring,ring, Michael heard the truck approaching closer and closer. KEVIN (SHOUTING IN MICHEAL'S DIRECTION) Hey baby voice! NARRATOR Michael tried to quickly walk past him, but Kevin tripped him up as he walked by. Michael quickly got up MICHAEL (SCREAMING IN KEVIN'S FACE) Man why you always picking on me! KEVIN, STEVEN and, JAMES (ALL MOCKING AND LAUGHING) Man why you always picking on me! MRS. SIMMONS What going on here? What’s all this screaming? KEVIN Nothing. KEVIN Mrs. Simmons! Mrs. Simmons! Michael has candy! MRS. SIMMONS What! Michael you know better, now go spilt it out. The entire class erupted into laughter MRS SIMMONS Stop laughing! And be quit class. Michael stood up slowly, and he knew all eyes are on him as he Michael walks over to the trashcan. MRS SIMMONS Now! Michael went to spit the candy out Michael felt a twitch in his mouth, think nothing of it, he spit the candy into the trashcan as soon as he did flames shot out of his mouth with a long snake like tongue that following behind. Michael? Yes ok mommy I’m up. His bedroom door crepe open, and in ran Ben & Jerry the family dog who was named after Michael’s favorite ice cream, he leaps on top of Michael. Slurp-slurp-slurp-slurp, yuck BJ don’t lick my face. Michael last warning gets up now! Lazily Michael pulls his 4foot 2inch, 78-pound frame out of bed. He walks to the Bathroom with Ben & Jerry following close behind, his mom quickly cuts him off on the way, why did it take you so long to get up? I don’t know Michael said, now your going to be late, unless I take you to school, then I’ll be late for work. Hmmm (Michael’s mom thought out loud), well kiddo it looks like you on you own. Proposal 3 4 over privileged Africa America college students travel to Sierra Leone Africa. They see how a little, go’s a long way when you have nothing and, they gain a new outlook on life. Genre: Documentary, Realty Four over privileged college student travel to Sierra Leone, to see just how easy their lives are. They will live and work just as any other African college student, and also live with an adopted family. They will eat the food that is severed to them, and also have a chance to meet and hang out 4 students their age. By doing so they will compare their lives to the 4 African students, and see how lucky they truly are. The students will consist of two young women and two young men.
