Statement
Painting is one way to view the world. Mine are embedded within interests in mysticism, the subconscious mind, spirituality and spontaneous creating.
Recently I'm filming myself painting. Is the painting residue or a document of an action? If film of the painting is placed alongside the painting, which is the most 'real'?
I started to dabble with 'performance painting' and found out the difference between live art, video art, piece for camera and documents.....
Summer 08 as I was painting 'The Paint Lies' I had the powerful realisation that the more I 'don't think' the more in touch with the creative power within. So yet again I find my inner artist, with paint, on the same but deeper level. I stay on the painting until conscious choice does not exist.
My experience of painting has since become an act of acute awareness. I may have to wait days until the 'moment is right' and yesterday, for example, when I suddenly stood up to go to the studio there was a determined and focused sensation which feels as much part of the art as the finished painting. This moment of creative urge is what I am interested in.

Biography
Artist from young age and embroidering friends' denim jackets for money at 14yrs. At 23 was gilding and creating calligraphy, selling work (including one to the Earl of Yarborough) and running workshops.Film making, graphic design and writing for some years in Somerset, Isle Skye, back to Sheffield in 04 when I set up and currently run an events outfit, label and booking agent for improvised and experimental music and performance. Started fine Art degree 2006.
