About Me ARTIST'S BIO
Samuel Santiago is part of that first generation to be born, raised and educated in the United States mainland. Samuel was born to parents that had come to live in The Bronx, in New York City, from Puerto Rico.
At an early age he showed the promise of the intuitive talent he has been blessed with. In grade school, his artwork was often selected by his teachers to be placed in school art shows. At home he would spend time tracing his father’s drawings and pictures from magazines.
Growing up during a turbulent time in the South Bronx projects, Samuel struggled to find his place between his talents and the realities of his neighborhood. Exposure to art at the Guggenheim and The Museum of Modern Art in New York City was influential to his following a path that helped him negotiate the volatile settings of his inner city environment.
It was with a small and humble portfolio of works that Samuel, with the encouragement of his Junior High School art teacher, auditioned and was accepted to the High School of Art and Design in Manhattan. It was there that the seeds to his artistic personality were sown. Majoring in Illustration and discovering the application of both acrylic paints and mixed media, it lit a fire in his heart that gave voice to his raw talents.
The call of fatherhood redirected the focus of this aspiring artist. Over the years he never lost sight of his heart’s dream. His works was then for the private enjoyment of his friends and family.
All journeys have a beginning. Sights were set on a European experience. Samuel arrived in Dublin, Ireland at the end of May 2008. During the rest of 2008 Amsterdam, Manchester, and Barcelona were included in this journey.
In Cork, Ireland, inspired and focused, Samuel produced some of his best works. He participated in local art events and gallery openings. Samuel established his own fledgling Global Rogue Studio in the Patrick Hill area of Cork and set to work. By the end of November he was recognized as a new and emerging Hispanic American abstract artist, he was embraced by the art community and was invited to participate in Shaw Gallery’s “New International Artists” presented in December 2008.
The Shaw Gallery, in Cork, Ireland is a prestigious and sought after venue by new and established artists throughout Ireland, as well as well as the E.U. The well attended opening night marked Samuel’s arrival to the local European art community.
The journey continued with his return to Orlando, Florida early in 2009. Returning to the Untied States with a few pieces from his European Collection, he began adding new works for his new American Collection. Exploring other facets of his artistic personality, to include found art sculptures, graphic art prints and wearable art pieces.
In the following months of 2009 Samuel participated in Group Shows, Art Events and Art Shows in the local venues in Orlando that gave him exposure and produced sales.
In march of 2009, select pieces from his European Collection has shown at RoHo Art and Coffee, which is part of the downtown Orlando City Arts Factory facility as part of a group show with the B-Side Artists.
Also that same month he débuted his new American Collection at REdefine's presentation of the Local Artist event in the downtown Orlando arts district.
In May 2009 pieces from both is European and his new American Collection were shown at the corporate offices of Florida Outsourcing Inc. at 16 W.Pine St. in Orlando.
In June of 2009 The Black Box Collective on W. Central Blvd featured seven works from his new American collection in their 50/50 Art Event. This event had a total of 212 works of art in the show. The well attended event was also a mixed group show and received good coverage by local newspapers.
Also in June 2009, he was invited again by the B-Side Artist group to join in a large group show at the Orlando City Arts Factory in which he was able to present four new works from his new American Collection.
In July/August 2009, RoHo Art and Coffee invited him to present his first solo show. The show "Far From The Bronx" marked his arrival to the local art community.
In December of 2009, fellow B-Side artist Adriano Diaz collaborated on a piece blending both of their artistic style. It was submitted to and accepted by, in late January 2010, the Focal Point Gallery in New York City for their themed February presentation called "Love" The very well attended opening marked a coming home, of sorts, to the city of his birth.

"This is a journey for me. It's about fulfillment and finding joy. It's about finding a way to share what joy I find. It's about finding and embracing a profound happiness within."

"To this end, I have produced my European Collection. Gathering insight from time spent in Cork, Dublin and Kinsale, in beautiful Ireland...and with visits to Amsterdam, Manchester and Barcelona, my journey has set me into a focus of texture and colors and new ideas."

A very special and heart felt thank you to Ms. Stefanie Hayes, fellow artist, musician, singer and muse...without whose dedication, generosity, kindness and companionship, my visit and comfortable stay in Europe would not have been possible.
In profound gratitude:

"The collaborative piece with Adriano Diaz was both fun and a challenge. Each of us brought to the canvas something very different from each other...yet, in both our personal lives, each of us have known the agony of having a broken heart...this bond was expressed in 'Graffiti Heart'. The staff at Focal Point Gallery cleverly placed this piece near the center of the themed group show called 'LOVE'...symbolically stating that there is love before and most important...after...a broken heart."

Statement “I like to feel the texture of a painting with my eyes at first glance, having it invite you in for a closer look. I believe a texture’s shadows play a part within the piece itself. As the lighting changes, subtle changes happen. I believe this gives my work a feeling of flexibility and evolution.
All things evolve. Thoughts, ideas, perceptions and creativity, flow from one form to another. Some of this energy is captured and laid out on canvas, a momentary glimpse of what an artist interprets.
Events past or present, real or invented are in each of my works. Being young at heart, seeing through the eyes of a seasoned man, having a spirit that reaches to create.
As I explore the different facets of my artistic personality and share what I discover with others, it becomes part of the collective movement from one place to another.
My work is the voice used to state to others that I too am not the same as I was when I started. Therefore, I too, evolve.”
