In an ideal world the word 'Charity' would not exist because the act of giving would be considered universally as part of being human, it would be so natural that it would not need to be defined.
I believe small acts of goodness and kindness freely given are what binds a society. They are often done without realisation, as manners, as part of our attitude to life and other people. Most individuals desire to be seen as socially worthy, to act outside their own selfish interests not with great gestures but through glints and sparks. The word Charity has too many toxic meanings. One day we will call it being human.
