.i am so so soory, but i really AM in a bad mood today...its not only your comments about my new work..there are other things you wouldn't know about,so forgive me...the paintings are an attempt to introduce a type of 'alchemical' process after the death of my father..in order to dull down my feelings..therefore the connection to an M&S summer blouse is quite fitting i suppose..were it not the for the fact i buy all my summer blouses from charity shops...i hope that M&S dont think i was attempting to rip them off with these designs..maybe they will use them in their next ad campaign..whaddya think?these paintings were not really designed for sale purposes,or to really please anyone except for myself..i understand why you do not like them in comparison to say 'boat surfaces'..which you seemed to like.. please remember that i feel that any criticism is good criticism..within moderation..i can only assume you were in a 'changeable' mood between 1.30am and 1.45am..and alot of people are..but as i am in a rubbish mood today..i hope you will forgive me if i say that, though you seem to be a capable painter.was the above painting meant as a chocolate box cover for a Sainsburys product?..i believe that the home of Cadburys is somewhere in your direction isn't it?..worth a try??...by the way your paintings of chairs look as if they have been sat upon a little bit too much by your critics...sorry..bad mood today...QUITE GOOD WORK/QUITE BORING WORK..anything constructive in terms of attitude next time??
with respect...
D.

......erm,one of these days i'm gonna....

.oh.. i didn't mean what i've just said..if i had enough money i would probably buy one of your paintings if they were for sale...one of those days i guess..

hi,
in a roundabout way,i guess i needed to explain my reactions in order not to cause any misunderstanding...its a long story ..so bear with me...
point one concerns the paintings themselves, and point two concerns how uploading a digital image can be considerably misleading...
firstly...ijn no way would i describe these particular series of works i have completed as being 'perfumed' or facile..in any way...in fact, people have compared them to taking two layers of skin of an uncooked dead pig...pigs being reminiscent of humans in their make-up..and therefore describing surgical techniques...even dirty bandages...the only way to fully criticise any work is,as you know to see the work as it is...reducing the paintings via digital imagery, gives the desired/undesired effect of cleaning the image so much that it becomes cosmetic...this is not an error that could be avoided..and to give ARTIFOLIO their due..they have attempted to minimise this problem by supplying the viewer with an enlarged image...however,even cropping the image..in a a way provides a cleaner viewing,as i am sure you have become aware..but as for a purer criticism..i remain unsure...to continue,in reference to my recent work....there are a couple of points that need to be made...firstly an attempt to introduce digital photography into my paintings as an enhancement for both media,as i find it so easy to create an impressive viewing in this format, and not particularly trying/satisfying...i.e the internet and a digital camera...but what about in an exhibition?...just a framed A4?..this is open to debate and further persuasion from others to convince me it is not an easy cop-out...and secondly the process in these works of using perspex and other materials in these collages...for instance...the M&S painting you referred to was attempting to open discussion upon the idea of an external influence entering in between what is viewed and the viewer..in other words conditioning,i made an attempt to explain this by introducing three layers of perspex and sandwiching a symbolic interpretation of this 'principle' in between two images...you cannot see this on a reduced image of the collage...only for real....what effects our opinions and decision making at any particular moment, for instance...as a hater of 24 hour tv you (and i)maybe....but if you have the darn thing on while working...well?..i am sure you will understand it is worth investigating what causes our decision making by observing what goes on around us at the time.
To,hopefully, bind these two observations together...perhaps consider how ambiguous a couple of sentences look if you cannot identify the person who made them...unless you refer to people as 'types'....which i feel is quite dangerous...the depth of vision that could be understood from proper explanation,is absolutely awe inspiring....i have got myself into arguments with people on other art forums who appear to have made errors in their explanations of their opinions in connection with their artwork....i.e to me its obvious...but to them, the prospect of self-criticism is an insult...and i do not wish to do it again...so forgive me...i do not think that you are guilty of this....anyway,this is meant to open somesort of debate upon this mattter..and not to cause an argument...so i must be humble and apologise,if i appear to rant or miscommunicate in any way...
cheers
d.

I really like this it is very peaceful and reminds me of when I lived in Massachusetts because of the natural setting.

I appreciate your comment on my media. Regarding your concern about graphics. I take a different view and I will share my perspective with you. All throughout history art as a medium has grown. New movements, new tools, new ideas, etc. I look at the graphics medium as another addition to the larger body of art as a whole. Often times new mediums and ideas are met with some hesitation and with the advent of graphics the same applies. But artistic creativity at its core is a dynamic ever changing thing. Learning the effects and principals of graphic design is not really any different then mastering any other art form. The graphic elements are just another sort of tool. In my view anything that adds tools and abilities for new art forms does not subtract from creativity but adds a new element to it rather.
Xander.
