I did this as a sample portrait. It was difficult to find the photo of him as I thought he should look. It was his belief a man should be judged on the content of his character. So wise. With 'doing unto others as you would have them do unto you', words to live by. The content of character idea transcends how 'smart' you are. Many with lots of knowledge or high IQ have no wisdom. It also transcends race, the amount of money you have, social status, what kind of clothes you wear, your professed political or religious beliefs, or where you live.

I am showing more of my child portraits for my new location in a mall store that sells children's furniture. People bring a photo of their subject and I make an original work of art from it-pastel, oil, or charcoal. Art sure has taken a hit lately, it's hard to find art stores in malls anymore.

I did this from a nice professionall done photo of the customer's two children. Instead of a monochrome background I used a variation of warm vs. cool colors. I think it works well because of the chidren's navy blue clothes.

I was commissioned to do this oil painting of a school principal for the school archives. Completey by chance it was the same high school I attended many years before. A model of the school sits on the left. You can see why they called Baltimore City College (high school) "The Castle on the Hill".
