In the center of two lanes of traffic at the entrance to Linear Park in Palm Coast,(http://ninapaints.blogspot.com/) is a panther in bronze, sculpted by local Florida artist Paul Baliker. Our plein air group positioned our easels there one day and painted the panther. Here's my oil rendition on a small 5X6 inch piece of masonite.
2'X3'10" pallet knife on masonite board. In this painting I am trying to create a sculptured effect with the paint, using pallet knife and thick strokes but mounding the paint a little like a relief work, hopefully creating more dimension. Carving the shapes also allows them to be dissected and separated with the eye. Here this Samaritan woman sits in darkness clutching her water jar.
